Mirtos past

Myrtos (Greek: Μύρτος) is a small village located 14.5 km west of the town of Ierapetra in the Lasithi Prefecture on the southern coast of the Greek island of Crete. The area of Mirtos has been inhabited since the Minoan times, but the present village has only emerged in the first half of the twentieth century. Before that, it was the location of a small harbour, where residents from the higher areas around  traded local products and shipped them to Ierápetra. Only when the threat of raids on the Cretan south coast by pirates decreased  and it was, therefore, safer, Mirtos village was developed.

Mirtos now

Mirtos has developed rapidly in recent years, without, however, losing its traditional village character and special beauty. In summer, Mirtos is bustling with life, dominated by the sea and tourists, whereas the winter days, calm and peaceful, pass in farming work. The temperature in winter almost never drops below 12ºC, therefore Mirtos is also an ideal village to spend the winter. Christmas holidays can be enjoyed in the sun!

Mirtos is a quiet place where you will find a laid back atmosphere. No discos to dance but you can dance at and enjoy musical evenings that are organised by the village and restaurant/bar owners. You can spend your days on the beach, dive, make day trips, read a book or hike around the beautiful area.

In the evening, you will find several restaurants where you can enjoy wonderful trational Cretan food with a good wine even after midnight!

We have to warn you. A visit to Mirtos is addictive. Once you have been to Mirtos you like to come back.
We at Villa Nostos like to contribute to your enjoyable stay!

This year was the first time I stayed at Nostos and it was very pleased. So close to the boulevard, the sea and the taverne’s. Very pleasant and quiet. I got totally spoiled with sweet
Nostos is like coming home, every year again! No luxes but great location, at the seaside and getting spoiled by Despina and Maria. Nostos is thuiskomen, elk jaar weer. Geen luxe, wel pracht
